Believing that people are motivated purely by self-interest; distrustful of human sincerity or integrity.

Practical Tips

  1. Cynicism is borne of distrust, so can be felt as an alarm bell to bring caution to our attention.
  2. Cynicism within a relationship can be destructive if taken in a negative way, it can be delivered light-heartedly but received as an insult.
  3. Emotional damage can be caused to vulnerable people, whether it was meant to or not e.g. degrading others, reducing their self-belief and confidence etc.

When my thoughts take a Cynical path, I know the subject matter is ‘pushing my buttons’, maybe I need to take another look?

The only time I will allow myself to feel….Cynical, is when I use it to question what is going on around me.
